The research-scientific Institute of Physical & Organic Chemistry was established in 1970 (decree N 676 of the Council of Ministers of RF of 9.12.1970 and that of the Ministry of Education of RF N 631 of 18.12.1970) as a structural subdivision of Rostov State University (founded in 1869 as the Emperor Warsaw University and moved to Rostov on Don in 1915 during the 1st World War). In 2006, with the organization on the base of Rostov University of Southern Federal University the Institute became a subdivision of the latter. Staff of the Institute is 200 research associates including 15 doctors of sciences and more than 60 candidates (Ph.D.) of sciences. The Institute performs post-graduate and master’s courses in physical, organic and theoretical chemistry. The Institute is affiliated with the Division of Chemistry and Material Science of Russian Academy of Sciences (decision of the division of chemistry and chemical technology of RAS N 50 of 9.06.1997).
